VINTAGE STEIFF STUFFED SCOTTY DOG TOY
Up for auction is a nice estate-find stuffed Scotty dog toy. This stuffed Scotty is what I believe to be a genuine Steiff stuffed animal, although there is no tag or button in the ear (not uncommon at all for Steiffs to lose their tag/button over time). In fact, based on its appearance, construction and components I also feel confident that it is an early example, likely dating from the 1930s or 40s. The vertically stitched nose, the particular red riveted(?) collar, and the round and flattened glass eyes all are some of the tell-tale signs of an original early Steiff. As such, it does show some wear consistent with age and use, which I've tried to show clearly in the supplied photos.
Please note the wear the the tail, head/top of nose, and back.
The eyes are particularly interesting, because they change appearance as your eye sees it from different angles. Sometimes they appear opaque/white because of the way they reflect the light- then others they look black, with the added accent of the original white paint fleck on each. This is a harder to find example of early Steiff stuffed toys. It would make a great addition to any collection.
