    Description

    AN ALBUM OF LIKENESSES
    Princess Bernice Pauahi Bishop
    BENEFACTRESS OF THE KAMEHAMEHA SCHOOLS
    and
    Charles Reed Bishop
    MAN OF HAWAII
    Harold Winfield Kent
    BERNICE PAUAHI BISHOP MUSEUM
    HONOLULU, HAWAII
    1972
    First Edition 1962
    Revised Edition 1972
This book was enlarged and revised
on the occasion of the 150th anniversary of the birth
    of Charles Reed Bishop,
    and published in cooperation with
    BISHOP TRUST COMPANY, LIMITED
    Honolulu, Hawaii.
Hardbound in very good to near fine condition, unpaginated but I count about 85 pages that includes a FOREWORDS, measures approximately 8 3/4" x 11 1/4", no dust jacket, likely none issued. .
The boards are covered in green red cloth with titles blind stamped on the spine only. They are clean and straight, unfaded with modest rubbing noted mostly to the points and ends of the spine with a slight bump to the upper front corner.
The interior reveals pristine contents with hinges completely intact. The only possible flaw of note might be a round 1/16" dark blemish at the upper edge of the rear pastedown that appears to have partially transferred to the opposite page. There are no previous owner indications, no other marks, no creases or tears.
The pages are printed on unbleached, exceptionally heavy (approximating card weight) stock with an uncut free edge.
    FOREWORD
"This album contains reproductions of the known photographs, daguerreotypes, sculptures, and early paintings of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Reed Bishop. Negatives of all of the likenesses reproduced in this album are housed in the Kamehameha Schools Administration Library."
"Despite the seemingly generous number of pictures in the collection, there is actually a real paucity in the sum total of pictures available. It is hoped therefore, that the publications of this album will not only bring forth better information concerning the pictures included herein but also stimulate the uncovering of unknown pictures which might be included in any future edition."
"With grateful appreciate, acknowledgement is made to Archives of Hawaii and the Bishop Museum for the many services rendered in connection with this album. A word of appreciation is also due to Caroline Curtis, Don Mitchell, Luryier Diamond, Cecil Keesling, and Paul Schneller, of The Kamehameha Schools, for their helpful assistance."
    - Harold W. Kent, President, The Kamehameha School.
This fascinating collection is presented in a rich album fashion prompting comparison, not only of the individuals through the ages, but of the difference in perception of the artists. The number of images is staggering considering the period, one on almost every embellished page including two colored renderings.
Published in conservative numbers, this copy of AN ALBUM OF LIKENESSES would be a beautiful addition to a historical collection.
